Art160 A FALL 2021

Self Analysis Texture

This was the idea of what I was going to draw for this project. I choose four items, my dog’s toy ball, a plant, a candle, and coffee mug. These items all have meaning to them which is why I wanted to draw them. The dog toy symbolizes the love I have for my dog, the coffee mug is because I am a coffee drinker, and lastly the plant and candle are things I enjoy to shop for the simplicity of these two items are reasons why I love it so much. I printed out this picture to allow myself to see how I was going to start my thumbnails, I have learned that I need to work with a picture in front of me but a print out. When I use my phone I see myself struggling more.

These are my thumbnails I started off by drawing the shapes of my objects. At first I was busy trying to sketch the object but Ms.Emerson told me to draw shapes I see. She told me to look at lines and shapes. This feedback from her helped me a lot throughput the process because I really was trying to see how I was going to draw this. I also took notes on my sketches of where I was going to shade darker or even texture ideas I had. This is such an important part of your drawing and I have learned that this step is definitely needed when you are going to start anything art related.
This was my final piece. I actually really enjoyed this piece I feel like I did decent. I am no artist I am learning everyday in class and I have honestly been trying. I do always face issues because I have never done anything artsy in my life. I do feel that I could’ve centered my piece better and drew it bigger. One of my classmates stated this during the critique and I agree I could have done that. I really enjoyed using the vine charcoal in the background, I attempted to do curtains it was very hard. I also learned sharpie is very easy to mess up and I had to be careful because I used sharpie for this project. I would’ve added more texture but I was just so overwhelmed with trying to draw what I saw and didn’t add it much. Overall, I really did enjoy this project.
